Before the summer sun begins to glare and the heat of the day warms the concrete, a small group of people emerge from the morning mist. As they descend on Downtown Blue Ridge Park, just a short skip away from the Downtown Farmer’s market; sleepy eyed with yoga mats in tow they are greeted by a warm voice and a bright smile.

Denver Boskey, owner of CenterPointe studios in Blue Ridge, GA is already set up and ready to teach her first summer session of Yoga in the Park. CenterPointe studios began offering this free class in the summer of 2010, just after the studio opened – in order to bring yoga to the public. Boskey states, “We wanted to show the people of Blue Ridge that yoga was for everyone. That the practice of yoga that we teach isn’t about eastern religion or chanting (although many yoga classes do offer these things) but is instead about making peace with your body and quieting your mind.”

Yoga in the park began that first summer on Thursday nights at Horseshoe Bend Park in McCaysville, just before “Pickin’ in the Park.” The evenings turned out to be sweltering hot, sometimes causing students to slide right off of their yoga mats into the grass and Mrs Boskey was relieved when a representative of the Blue Ridge Farmers market invited CenterPointe to set up in Downtown Blue Ridge on Saturday mornings.

“I think it was the perfect fit,” She says. “The same people who enjoy picking up their fresh produce at the farmer’s market also enjoy activities such as yoga and who doesn’t love basking in the morning glow of the sun in beautiful downtown Blue Ridge?”

Yoga in the Park – sponsored by CenterPointe studios is free to the public and continues every Saturday in June and July from 9:00am – 10:00am (no class on July 5th) and for the first time ever will be hosted by a variety of instructors from CenterPointe studios. Amanda Dilbeck, Susan Simms and Denver Boskey are eager and excited to continue this tradition and look forward to meeting all their new students in the park this summer as they share a variety of yoga styles with their sleepy eyed Saturday students.
